This fundraising program offers four varieties of premium coffee for sale by Rotary clubs. Clubs buy the coffee for $7 a bag and sell it for $10 a bag and keep the entire $3 a bag as profit. Built into the $7 a bag cost to the clubs is the Rotary licensing fee and also a donation to the Clean Water for Coffee Producing Countries Donor Advised Fund, as well as the shipping to the participating club. Additionally, all coffee purchased from now through December 2010 will include an extra $1.00 contribution to the Clean Water Donor Advised Fund. See John for details on how your addiction can help others.
  • Welcome to Bill Johnson, the newest member of the Anthony Wayne Rotary Club!

 This Week's Speaker:

Final-6

Coach Chris Paul

Tommy Bell introduced this week's speakers, Chris Paul, coach of the IPFW women's basketball team and Anne Boese, senior and captain of the team.

Chris has been coaching at IPFW for 11 years and is in his sixth season as head coach. Anne is one of the stars of the team and Tommy says, "She shoots 3's like it's raining." She has set every 3-point record at IPFW and the leader in 3's in the Summit League.

IPFW's women's basketball team has been part of the Summit League for four years and went 20-11 last year with a 13-5 record.

Chris says that his team is looking forward to a good year, but they need support. At a scrimmage versus Miami of Ohio, Miami that it didn't need to brings its A-game and IPFW took home the win. Women's basketball at IPFW is becoming a team to be reckoned with.

How is women's college basketball different from men's? Women have a 30-second shot clock; men have a 35-second shot clock. Women't don't have a back court rule; mean have a 10-second back court rule. Women use a smaller basketball than men. In the past women had a shorter 3-point shot line than men, but that has been

standardized.

When asked to explain the "art of basketball in 30 seconds," Chris  said that it's about speed and flow. IPFW has four shooters on the court and one post player in the middle. This way, defenders don't' know who to "help off of." Chris also pointed out that he feels very strongly, and his team knows this, that if you have the open shot, you take it. But that doesn't mean you don't "trust in the extra pass," meaning, trust your teammates to help make the play. He says his girls know they are in the dog house for only two reasons: 1) if they don't play hard and 2) if they don't shoot when they have the open shot.

When you have a chance, check the IPFW women's basketball schedule and catch a home game!
