Announcements:

  • AWRC Coffee Mugs are being sold for $6.50. Make sure you get yours (at the sign-in table) this week! 
  • Please keep both Tom Heiny and his wife in your thoughts and prayers. They are in the Heritage Park Nursing home on Hobson. She broke her shoulder and arm working in the garden and had surgery yesterday. Please stop by to see them if you can.
  • A message from Don MauriceYour Rotary Youth Exchange Committee needs your assistance. We are in need of a second host family for August, our exchange student from Germany this year. If you know of anyone in the Leo school district that can be a host family for August from beginning to middle of January thru end of June or beginning of July 2012, please get a hold of Justin Libey (260-557-5401) or Don Maurice (260-414-3233). We have some preliminary meetings and paperwork that need to be filled out and sent into the United States State Department as soon as possible.
  • Carrie Boylan is heading up the Mental Health Association Christmas Gift Program this year. The need this year is for toiletries and sweat suits. Sweat suits should be in X, XL and XXL sizes and dark colors.Donations need to be collected by December 14 and all gifts need to remain unwrapped.   • The Christmas Party will take place at Al Brothers' at 6 p.m. on Dec. 8. See Al if you have any questions. 
  • Bob Moore's wife, Marcia, is at Adam's Memorial Hospital and isn't doing well. Please say a prayer for Marcia this week. 
  • Larry McChessney is working on updating the AWRC directory. Rudy II will be taking photos and Bill Johnson is putting it together. 
  • The winning Rolloto number was held by Bryan Sharp. However, he did not draw the seven of hearts to claim the jackpot of $1,234.

Chris Peterson Grosse

 

Dick Duke introduced this week's speaker, Chris Peterson Grosse, a part of the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel and IRS tax advocate from Elkhart, Ind. 


The Taxpayer Advocacy Panel is a group of volunteers appointed by the Secretary of the Treasury, and is in depend of the IRS It was created in 1998 as part of the Restructuring and Reform Act. It is a volunteer position that requires over 600 hours per year. It's mission is to help tax payers resolve problem with the IRS and recommends changes to present problems. 


Chris pointed out that you may qualify for help if you've tried to resolve your problem through normal IRS channels. 


The purpose of the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel is to listen tot what you have to say about the IRS and take action and give your suggestions a voice. The Taxpayer Advocacy Panel has members in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and puerto Rico, all of whom are available to listen to what you have to say about the IRS. 


FYI: There were 147,966 individual returns filed in Allen County. The average hourly wage is $39.60. And the average tax refund is $3,000.
