  • AWRC Coffee Mugs are being sold for $6.50. Make sure you get yours (at the sign-in table) this week!
  • Keep Marcia Moore in your prayers as she isn't doing very well.
  • John Smith is working with Green Mountain Coffee on a fundraiser that is sponsored by several Rotary clubs to help bring clean water to developing countries. This fundraising program offers four varieties of premium coffee for sale by Rotary clubs. Clubs buy the coffee for $7 a bag and sell it for $10 a bag and keep the entire $3 a bag as profit. Built into the $7 a bag cost to the clubs is the Rotary licensing fee and also a donation to the Clean Water for Coffee Producing Countries Donor Advised Fund, as well as the shipping to the participating club. Additionally, all coffee purchased from now through December 2010 will include an extra $1.00 contribution to the Clean Water Donor Advised Fund. See John for details on how your addiction can help others.
  • Thank you to all who attended the Rotary Foundation Dinner. Our club won two awards: Foundation Giving of $150 or more per member, Clubs whose total giving was $10,000 or more.

  • Please keep both Tom Heiny and his wife in your thoughts and prayers. They are in the Heritage Park Nursing home on Hobson. She broke her shoulder and arm working in the garden and had surgery yesterday. Please stop by to see them if you can.
  • A message from Don MauriceYour Rotary Youth Exchange Committee needs your assistance. We are in need of a second host family for August, our exchange student from Germany this year. If you know of anyone in the Leo school district that can be a host family for August from beginning to middle of January thru end of June or beginning of July 2012, please get a hold of Justin Libey (260-557-5401) or Don Maurice (260-414-3233). We have some preliminary meetings and paperwork that need to be filled out and sent into the United States State Department as soon as possible.
  • The winning Rolloto number was held by Larry McChessney. However, he did not draw the seven of hearts to claim the jackpot of $1,077.
The Rotary Minute:

 This Week's Speaker:

Final-4

John Peckinpaugh

Dick Duke introduced this week's speakers, Tony Jasick, coach of the IPFW men's basketball team and John Peckinpaugh.

Coach Jasick received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology Education from Mars Hill College in 2000. He then obtained his Masters in Education degree from Lincoln Memorial University in 2002. He was named the head men’s basketball coach at IPFW in April of this year. Jasick has been a member of the IPFW coaching staff for the past six seasons, including the previous four as the associate head coach.

John gained national recognition last year fro sustaining multiple concussions which caused him to wear a wrestling helmet. He has been featured on the front page of the USA Today sport's section and has received some recognition on ESPN.

Jasick says that it on players like John that the IPFW men's team is building. Though the team is young, it is growing in skill.

"Sometimes we look good," says Jasick of his team. "Other times, not so much."

Jasick says that this comes from structured practices where there is no downtime.

"We scrimmage and we run drills," says Jasick. "We also have a free throw session half way through the practice to simulate half time."

Jasick also says that his team is benefitting from modern technology because the coaches and the team is able to view footage of the opponents prior to any game. This allows the team to create a more suited strategy for the upcoming games.

When you have a chance, check the IPFW men's basketball schedule and catch a home game!
