We are in need of a second host family for August, our exchange student from Germany this year. If you know of anyone in the Leo school district that can be a host family for August from beginning to middle of January thru end of June or beginning of July 2012, please get a hold of Justin Libey (260-557-5401) or Don Maurice (260-414-3233). We have some preliminary meetings and paperwork that need to be filled out and sent into the United States State Department as soon as possible
Carrie Boylan is heading up the Mental Health Association Christmas Gift Program this year. The need this year is for toiletries and sweat suits. More tutors needed. See Dan Culbertson for information.
We had a FANTASTIC Trap and Skeet event last weekend thanks to the planning and persistence of three Rotarians. The planning team included John Smith, Aron Dellinger and Bruce Cole. The event was a great success for our first ever Trap and Skeet shoot. Many of our fellow Rotary club members, family and friends joined us along with a team from the Warsaw Rotary Club. The food, fellowship, and shooting made this a truly FUN event. Former Rotarian and club president Ed Smith joined us for a day of fellowship and FUN. The three winning teams are: #1 team led by Carrie (Annie Oakley) Boylan, #2 team led by Aron Dellinger and #3 team from the Warsaw Rotary Club. Our German exchange student, August, did very well in his first Trap and Skeet event on team Dellinger. Time to start getting ready for next year!

John Smith is always talking about money, but this time he didn’t have a bill in his hand for anyone. He had Green Mountain Coffee, a fundraiser that is sponsored by several Rotary clubs to help bring clean water to developing countries. This fundraising program offers four varieties of premium coffee for sale by Rotary clubs. Clubs buy the coffee for $7 a bag and sell it for $10 a bag and keep the entire $3 a bag as profit. Built into the $7 a bag cost to the clubs is the Rotary licensing fee and also a donation to the Clean Water for Coffee Producing Countries Donor Advised Fund, as well as the shipping to the participating club. Additionally, all coffee purchased from now through December 2010 will include an extra $1.00 contribution to the Clean Water Donor Advised Fund. See John for details on how your addiction can help others. (That’s only your coffee-drinking addiction, not the others you may have.)
Barrie Peterson reported
that the Anthony Wayne 5K Race to help eradicate polio
netted a profit of $2537.60, which brought applause from the members
present. This was about $1000 more than last year. Over 200 participants
came out to support the cause. Also, both the men's and women's teams
for AWR defeated the Downtown Club's teams and brought home the
trophies! Many assume the reason for the increased success was the
participation of Amber Recker and Lynette Fager, along with the half
participation of Carol Keplar.
Next year's 5k
is already scheduled for August 18. Mark your calendars and start
training now.
Rudy Mahara, Jr. announced that the club can now accept credit card payments for bills, special events, etc., but not for smaller amounts like the weekly lunch charges. The board is requesting members to add a 5% “convenience charge tip” to cover the service fee which is added to the bill. Also, only charges for the Anthony Wayne Rotary Club can be charged, not those for our foundation or other entities

Clarification of new Rolotto: At the beginning of the progressive pot cycle, a card will be drawn from a deck of cards and that card will become the “winning” card. At our meeting each week, a winner will be drawn per usual and that individual will be awarded $10, but he or she will also have the opportunity to draw a card from the deck. If they draw the winning card, they win the entire pot. If they do not, that card is discarded and the pot grows. Guests may not win the full pot. As the pot gets larger the odds of winning the pot get better!
Coming soon:

The main speaker for the day was Tom Branum Sr. (right) who served as
Rotary International Director from 2007 to 2009. Tom invited us to
reflect on our illustrious history using the legend of the Lone Ranger
to illustrate how Rotarians are the men and women in the white hats or
the “good guys and gals.”
